Sat- Wivenhoe Farmer’s Market at the Congregational Church in the High Street 9.30-12.30pm.

Sat- Sunshine Pop Garden Party Music Festival at the Whalebone Inn 6-10pm, free.

Sat- Free Family Saturdays at Firstsite 11am-1pm & 2-4pm.

Sat- From Camulodunum to Colchester guided walking tour from Colchester Visitor Centre 11am, fee payable.

Sat- Guided tour of Colchester Roman Circus 12 midday & 1pm £3 (under 16s free).

Sat- Guided History Walk of Mersea, from West Mersea Museum 2.30pm, small fee payable.

Sat- Kids Club at Colchester Odeon 10am & 10.30am. This week’s screenings are “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul” & “Boss Baby”.

Sun- Classic & Vintage Car Show at Hedingham Castle 10am-5pm, fee payable.

Sun- The History of Castle Park Guided Tour 2.00pm, free but must book in advance at the Rangers Station in the Park.

Sun- Wivenhoe Annual Crabbing Competition. Registration at the Quay at 10.30am, £2 entry fee, competition starts 11am until 1pm.

Sun- Hat Check Honeys at Colchester Castle Park Bandstand 12 midday-1.30pm followed by the Harmonettes at 2pm finishing with Sid Bolan’s Big Band at 4pm. All free.

This will be a local community event full of fun, learning, shopping and of course PRIDE. 

Book your calendars, it will be on Saturday 19th August, and it will take place at Colchester's very own Firstsite.

Job Purpose
Carrying out Health & Safety consultancy and training services, providing timely reports, documentation and advice/assistance as required.
Job Overview
Safetyboss is looking for a hardworking and professional Health & Safety person, with a high level of technical knowledge and people experience. You will have the ability to build strong relationships and deliver high quality, bespoke consultancy and training services. Ideally you will be a chartered member of The Institution of Occupational Safety & Health or equivalent or working towards this. Training experience is required, and a training qualification desirable.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • To visit client premises (75% within M25 corridor) for the purpose of carrying out agreed contractual work, such as audits, fire risk assessments, training, noise assessments, risk profiling.
  • Advise and instruct clients in the use of Health and Safety Management systems and other relevant technical documents and online services
  • Liaise with the HSE and other Enforcing Authorities on behalf of clients when required to do so
  • Assist clients with accident or other special investigations as required
  • Advise clients on matters of Health and Safety standards and best practice affecting their business
  • Provide high quality management reports as required
  • Manage time effectively to provide an effective and efficient service to clients
  • Supporting the client through effective crisis management where required
  • Attend regular meetings at the Head Office in Woodbridge
What you Bring to the Team
  • Excellent people relationship skills
  • Provision of practical solutions
  • Ability to deliver a high quality consultancy service within commercial boundaries
  • Ability to deliver training courses -both client internal and professional
  • An all-round people person with a ‘can do’ attitude,
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong Health and Safety technical knowledge ideally within an engineering background
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • Full UK driving licence and access to own car

Mersea Regatta & Round The Island Race

This year's famous Mersea Round the Island race will take place on Wednesday 23 Augustfollowed by the Mersea Town Regatta on Saturday 26 August.
The Island Race was first run in 1970 and each year hundreds of competitors and spectatorsenjoy the unique race which circumnavigates Mersea Island. This year spectators can watch the race on the big screen at the West Mersea Yacht Club. Good luck to all those taking part!
